Girls Write Now Live Airs June 5

The sixth episode of Girls Write Now Live—honoring Agent of Change Kiley Reid, NYT bestselling author of Such a Fun Age—streams live on Friday, June 5 at 6 PM. Join us to hear genre- and medium-bending work from the next generation of women writers!

Give. Write. Now: Spring Appeal 2020

Girls Write Now’s services are more essential than ever before—serving the hardest hit communities in New York City—and many of our young women and gender non-conforming youth have themselves become essential workers to help their families. They carry an enormous burden and face devastating loss, slipping further into poverty. To meet the need, we are enriching and extending our programs in innovative ways—including filling the gaping hole of summer youth programming.

STARS Summer Syllabus

Now heading into our 7th year, the STARS Citywide Girls Initiative, comprised of ten leading nonprofits, has collectively served nearly 30,000 girls of color and gender non-conforming youth in all 51 Council Districts across the 5 boroughs—with life-changing outcomes for one of the city’s most vulnerable populations. At STARS, we understand the power of a collective, and we have banded together to ensure the extension and enrichment of our services, filling the gaping hole of summer programming for NYC youth. Introducing the STARS Summer Syllabus—capturing the depth and diversity of STARS programs across disciplines.

Girls Write Now Live: May 1 Highlights

The third episode of Girls Write Now Live was History in the Making—an evening of performances featuring the diverse voices of today’s young writers with electrifying original storytelling through prose, poetry, video, illustration, and more forms of multimedia work. We also honored the evening’s keynote speaker Lauren Wilkinson, author of American Spy (Random House) with the Agent of Change Award.

Friday Night Salon: May 8 Highlights

Friday, May 8th featured another installment of our Friday Night Salon Series, I remember. I believe. I am. with poet, author, educator, and producer Samantha Thornhill. Our Friday Night Salons— now open to the public— are a space for our community to learn from and write with incredible authors, poets, journalists, and novelists. The Girls Write Now Friday Night Salon Series is an extension of our Writing Works Program.
