Landing the Role Series

Landing the Role Series Part I: Cover Letters & Resumes for Internships & Jobs

Took place on Wednesday, February 10, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM ET

In Part 1, we learned how to write a cover letter and craft a resume that will help us stand out in any candidate pool. We reviewed best practices for applying to any internship or job—from researching the company and using the job posting to our advantage, to framing our resume to fit the position! The first half of the workshop focused on best practices, followed by working one-to-one with a mentor on either writing a new, or polishing an existing cover letter or resume.

Landing the Role Series Part II: Interviews for Internships & Jobs

Took place on Wednesday, February 17, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM ET

In Part II of this Series, we learned how to conduct research and prepare answers to deliver an outstanding interview. We covered what to do when thrown curve ball questions, what to avoid asking until you are closer to the job offer phase, and how to write a stellar thank you letter. Mentees also had the opportunity to work one-to-one with a professional during this workshop to receive more personalized advice and practice interviewing.

Landing the Role Series Part III: Putting it Into Practice

Took place on Wednesday, February 24, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM ET

After drafting cover letters and resumes, and learned how to best prepare for an interview, we put it all into practice by working one-to-one with a mentor! Mentees had the choice to choose what they wanted to practice or work on to make the most out of what they learned.

At Girls Write Now, we work to challenge and change the systemic racism and inequality by breaking down the barriers of race and poverty to elevate the voices of girls and gender nonconforming youth who are too often not heard—or worse, silenced. From mental and emotional wellness to advocating for racial justice, we are here to support you individually and as a community through our robust programming. Check out our calendar to see our current offerings or visit our Life Resources page to support you during this time.

GIVE. WRITE. NOW. And Thank you!!

Girls Write Now’s services are more essential than ever before—serving the hardest hit communities—and many of our young women and gender nonconforming youth have themselves become essential workers to help their families. They carry an enormous burden and face devastating loss, slipping further into poverty. To meet the need, we have enriched and extended our programs, leading the historical transition to virtual learning.
