After a dozen salons with more than 1,000 registrants and writing that opened our hearts and minds, we were thrilled to celebrate the success of the Summer Salon Series with a virtual Open Mic Night, emceed by Girls Write Now mentor and comedian Nikki Palumbo. The show included special guest performances from recent Salon hosts Morgan Jerkins, Cynthia Amoah and Emily Neuberger.
Nikki Palumbo is obviously a writer and comedian based in New York. Her writing has appeared on The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, The Belladonna, Reductress, the Google Assistant, and her parents’ fridge. Three hundred years ago, she hosted the stand-up show Queer Tiger Beat at Henrietta Hudson, for the culture!
Our Summer Salons—hosted in Zoom and open to the public—are a space for our community to learn from and write with incredible authors, poets, journalists, and novelists. The Girls Write Now Summer Salon Series is an extension of our Writing Works Program.
