Emcees

  • LAURA ROSE CARDONA is a second-year Girls Write Now mentee. Following in the steps of her mentor, Kathleen Scheiner, Laura has taken up a freelancing position for ghost writing in order to fund her blog-hosting pursuits and her exquisite taste in women’s suits. Additionally, Laura has recently completed the first draft of her debut young adult novel, Purgatory, just one of four works Laura submitted to Scholastic that earned her two Silver Keys and two Honorable Mentions. She aims to revise and publish the book while she attends The King’s College in New York City for a degree in business administration.
  • KATHLEEN SCHEINER has been a Girls Write Now mentor for six years. She’s a freelance writer, editor, copyeditor, and proofreader with a taste for horror and dark fiction. She’s written for L’Ecran Fantastique, Toxic, Publishers Weekly, and Dance International, and her novel The Collectors was published in 2013. She’s almost finished with her novel Blood Masque, a project she started with Laura Rose Cardona, her mentee. Laura beat her, finishing her novel Purgatory first!

GIVE. WRITE. NOW. And Thank you!!

Girls Write Now’s services are more essential than ever before—serving the hardest hit communities—and many of our young women and gender nonconforming youth have themselves become essential workers to help their families. They carry an enormous burden and face devastating loss, slipping further into poverty. To meet the need, we have enriched and extended our programs, leading the historical transition to virtual learning.
