(R)EVOLUTION: The 2016 Girls Write Now Anthology

(R)evolution

(R)evolution: The 2016 Girls Write Now Anthology is now available on Amazon.

Girls Write Now announces the next installment in our award-winning anthology series, (R)evolution: The Girls Write Now 2016 Anthology, published by She Writes Press (May 2016), featured in Newsweek, and made possible thanks to a charitable donation from Amazon Literary Partnership. This literary celebration showcases the girls and their mentors’ best work, from poetry and fiction to screenplays and memoirs.

(R)evolution explores our evolving creative narrative, celebrating the importance of igniting change and starting anew as writers, thinkers, women, and media makers. It features a foreword by Francine Prose, New York Times best-selling author and professor at Bard College, and an introduction by Quiara Alegría Hudes, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright (and last year’s June CHAPTERS keynote speaker).

“The stories, essays, and poems gathered from mentees in (R)evolution: The Girls Write 2016 Anthology are expressions of, and vehicles to, power. Writing them, the girls discover who they are and who they want to be — and how they want their community and their country to be. They create worlds, turn their friends and family into characters on the page, and reach new understandings. And the power they gather from writing carries over into their daily lives. Writing these pieces, the girls learn how to talk, how to reason, how to express themselves. They learn that what they think and say matters.” — FRANCINE PROSE

The Girls Write Now anthology series has been recognized as the Outstanding Book of the Year in the Independent Publisher Book Awards, and has earned additional honors from the International Book Awards, National Indie Excellence Awards, Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the New York Book Festival, the San Francisco Book Festival, and the Paris Book Festival.

Our anthologies have received praise from Gloria Steinem, Roxane Gay, Meg Wolitzer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Christina Baker Kline, Eve Ensler, Isaac Fitzgerald, Emily St. John Mandel, Janet Mock, and countless others. Says People magazine, “It’s hard not to be inspired.”

“A girl who learns to speak up for herself will grow into a woman with the capability to do great things in the world. Read Girls Write Now’s anthology (R)evolution, and get to know the next generation of necessary voices: they are young, they are talented, and they are brave.”
—ANGELA FLOURNOY, author of The Turner House

“It’s hard to think of a more important endeavor for a girl than learning how to use her voice. Through Girls Write Now, the young women in this book have encountered new experiences, new ideas, new challenges, all of which inform and strengthen their voices. The writing here is fresh and alive. You are about to experience the great joy of reading new artists as they begin to discover themselves and their powers.”
—KAITLYN GREENIDGE, author of We Love You, Charlie Freeman and Girls Write Now mentor

“My whole life has been supported by the gift of being given the space to tell stories. Seeing these brilliant and driven young women take on the world through words gives me so much hope for the future, both of television and the world.”
—JENNI KONNER, co-author with Lena Dunham of the weekly feminist online newsletter and website, LennyLetter.com, and executive producer, co-writer, and showrunner of HBO’s Girls

GIVE. WRITE. NOW. And Thank you!!

Girls Write Now’s services are more essential than ever before—serving the hardest hit communities—and many of our young women and gender nonconforming youth have themselves become essential workers to help their families. They carry an enormous burden and face devastating loss, slipping further into poverty. To meet the need, we have enriched and extended our programs, leading the historical transition to virtual learning.
