“Giving young women the ability to express themselves with clarity and force is an act of great potential social and political power. Girls Write Now harnesses that power.” —Zadie Smith, author of Swing Time, On Beauty and White Teeth
We take the strongest, boundary-pushing work each mentee writes from the Writing & Mentoring Program and collect it each year in our award-winning literary journals. For the Digital Media Mentoring Program, we have exhibited their groundbreaking work through both online multimedia anthologies and an art book featuring their digital creations. We publish pieces from all of our mentors and mentees, showcasing the stories that surprise us and stretch our understanding of the world and ourselves.
Our anthologies have received praise from Gloria Steinem, Roxane Gay, Meg Wolitzer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Christina Baker Kline, Eve Ensler, Isaac Fitzgerald, Emily St. John Mandel, Janet Mock, and countless others. Says People magazine, “It’s hard not to be inspired.”
The GWN anthology series has been recognized as Outstanding Book of the Year in the Independent Publisher Book Awards and has earned additional honors from the International Book Awards, National Indie Excellence Awards, Next Generation Indie Book Awards, New York Book Festival, San Francisco Book Festival, and Paris Book Festival. Girls Write Now anthologies have been featured by Teen Vogue, Bustle, People and more: Says People magazine, “It’s hard not to be inspired.”
