Girls Write Now Circle Embraces the Community

Dear Circle Members,

Girls Write Now is meeting the highest demand in our 23-year history and the results are inspiring. Forged in our successful writing and mentoring model, we are delivering robust programming to our mentees who are writing through the pandemic with confidence and determination. Attendance has never been higher at our multi-genre, multimedia writing workshops, including our popular college essay writing workshops, our evening writing salons, and our frequent professional development workshops with companies like WarnerMedia, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Royal Bank of Canada, and NBC.

We are thrilled to see our mentees smiling! In 2020, 100% of mentees showed a significant increase in positive identity—and their overall social-emotional learning outcomes consistently rank Girls Write Now one of the top programs in the nation. Mentees are securing their stature in school with consistent writing support from their mentors, and our seniors are braving the unknown to attend college this fall—including Harvard, Howard, Hunter, and many more. Your continued support allows us to do what we do. Please read on!

You are making a difference in hundreds of lives! The Girls Write Now Circle has provided essential backing for the work we are doing right now, serving the hardest-hit communities—low-income girls and gender nonconforming youth of color. Already in vulnerable financial and emotional situations, these bright, talented, caring teens carry an enormous burden and face devastating loss as many slip further into poverty. We are honored to be in partnership with you and together we are helping hundreds of future leaders.

The Girls Write Now summer series has been an absolute blessing to me. I have gained so much confidence in myself and in my writing. I read my poetry aloud for the first time, which is just incredible to me! I have social anxiety, so even talking to other people can be daunting and stressful, but the Salons felt like such safe, encouraging spaces that I was able to do it. – Asma A., Girls Write Now Summer Mentee

Please join the Girls Write Now Circle—or renew and consider increasing your generous annual gift. Every single donation will directly support Girls Write Now’s initiative to ensure that young women and gender nonconforming youth are supported with free, innovative and invaluable programming.

Girls Write Now’s services are more essential than ever before—serving the hardest hit communities—and many of our young women and gender nonconforming youth have themselves become essential workers to help their families.
