SATURDAY 360 SERIES

The Saturday 360 Series covers Girls Write Now’s core curriculum, providing participants with multi-genre, multimedia and multi-platform writing skills—everything from storytelling to coding. Saturday 360 Teaching Artists have professional writing expertise in a particular genre or medium—and notable experience teaching youth. They help pass on their specific craft while demonstrating how writing can be applied in real life. Teaching Artists develop and write lesson plans within Girls Write Now’s curricular guidelines, teach sections of mentor/mentee pairs, evaluate workshops, and present a final, post-workshop revised lesson plans. Saturday 360 workshops are typically 2.5 hours on Saturday of any given month. Occasionally we produce workshops with a different format and timeframe.

Visit the Writing 360 program page for examples of past Saturday 360 workshops. Ready to pass on your expertise in a specific genre or media? Apply to be a Teaching Artist through the form below.

ABOUT GIRLS WRITE NOW

Girls Write Now mentors underserved young women and gender nonconforming youth to find their voices through the power of writing and community. As the first writing and mentoring organization, we have been a nationally respected leader in arts education for over 20 years. Girls Write Now breaks down the barriers of gender, race and poverty, pairing underserved girls and gender nonconforming youth with professional writers and digital media makers—building skills, networks and life-long relationships that open doors and change lives.

Girls Write Now serves a culturally and educationally diverse community of girls and gender nonconforming youth (mentees)—90% of color, 90% high need, 75% immigrant or first generation and 25% LGBTQ+/gender nonconforming. These underserved teens, who have long been negatively impacted by the lack of resources and opportunities in public schools, face significant challenges to educational and professional success.Unfortunately, in our city and our country, girls and gender nonconforming teens of color are rarely given the guidance, care and systemic support they need to gain confidence in their talents and accomplishments, graduate from high school and access viable college or career opportunities, perpetuating cycles of poverty and disempowerment. Girls Write Now is uniquely positioned to help correct these longstanding inequalities.

Check out our calendar to see our current offerings or visit our Life Resources page to support you during this time.

Girls Write Now Stands in Solidarity with the AAPI Community

At Girls Write Now, we are alarmed and deeply disturbed by the recent incidents of violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country. As ever, we are committed to challenging systemic racism and xenophobia, and standing in solidarity with our community as we process and heal through art and storytelling.

Girls Write Now’s services are more essential than ever before—serving the hardest hit communities—and many of our young women and gender nonconforming youth have themselves become essential workers to help their families. They carry an enormous burden and face devastating loss, slipping further into poverty. To meet the need, we have enriched and extended our programs, leading the historical transition to virtual learning.
