GWN + Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Writing Works: Letters With Young Writers
November 11 – 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
On Wednesday, November 11, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Girls Write Now meet for an intergenerational exchange during this time of global crisis and cultural upheaval. Led by Girls Write Now, HMH employees—“Mentors for the Day”—will learn about the concerns of diverse New York City youth in the midst of COVID-19 and a growing movement for racial justice, then write letters to help support them through this unusual and anxiety-producing season. Meanwhile, Girls Write Now teens—“Mentees”—will have a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of a major publishing company, hear about the personal journeys of talented professionals in the industry, and share their feelings, perspectives, and ideas in the form of letters to HMH employees.
During this time of global crisis and cultural upheaval, this event offers you the space to exhale and put your feelings to paper in an intergenerational exchange of letters. You will also have the unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of a major publishing company, with bestsellers like The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, and Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel AND hear about the personal journeys of talented professionals in the industry.
Plus…there’s a book give-away!! That’s right, HMH is giving five attendees a free book by one of their illustrious authors!!
