“As a journalist, I believe in the power of storytelling: to shed light, to move people, to effect change… and I believe girls need to be able to take control of their stories and launch them into the world. Girls Write Now helps to harness that magic and make it happen.”— Juju Chang, Emmy Award-winning Co-Anchor of ABC News Nightline
The Anthology has already received fabulous feedback. Bustle compiled a list of graduation gifts for the young aspiring writer in your life and Voice to Voice: 2015 Girls Write Now Anthology topped the list!
Voice to Voice showcases the girls and their mentors’ best work, from poetry and fiction to screenplays and memoirs. The mentees tackle big issues, such as race relations and abuse, as well as current feelings on social media, self-esteem and family dynamics.
This year, author, activist, and Girls Write Now Awards emcee, Marianne Pearl, has written a poignant foreword: “Girls Write Now gives us the chance to share these young girls’ feelings and experiences, carefully narrated from the heart, intimate enough to touch the universal. This anthology is a read for all generations, cultures and for anyone who has an interest in the future.”
A companion to this year’s Anthology is our brand new art book VOICE/VOICE that highlights the work of mentees in our Digital Media Mentoring Program. The art book features poetry, images, illustrations, and stills from videos, challenging the barriers between print and digital media. The girls used Adobe, Final Cut Pro, Text Wrangler and a variety of other tools to produce their submissions. It is a great resource for anyone interested in exploring multidimensional digital storytelling.
