Who we are
“Girls Write Now goes beyond just words: it sets goals and accomplishes them, it looks you in the eye and says, “Go ahead, we’re right behind you.” - Malya Schulman, intern
A television writer and a high school student unpack laptops at a coffee shop and debate narrative structure. A Pulitzer Prize winning journalist breaks down her technique in a loft crowded with young women. A writer finally gets the cadence of her poem just right and her heart beats a little faster with pride.
This is Girls Write Now: a community of women writers from ages 13 to 83. Together, we write the future, one girl at a time.

Our mentees are stunningly diverse teen girls from all five boroughs of New York City, many originally from countries around the globe. Our mentors are professional women writers who stand as shining, real-life examples of exactly who these girls can be as women and as writers.
Our staff, board, and advisory committees come together to foster a community of women writers of all ages. Every member of our community shares a passion for mastering our craft and a deep conviction that our work has the power to enrich the lives of others as well as our own.
Our donors and partners give their skills, their resources, and their unique voice.
