The College Bound Program provides free programming to a wide audience of underserved high school girls across New York City. It is open to all high school girls, whether or not they are in either of our mentoring programs. In the summer, we offer a free, expert-led workshop series focused on resume/cover letter writing and the college application essay. In the winter, we run a half-day College Bound Scholarship-a-Thon.
Twice a year, Girls Write Now hosts a free College Bound workshop series and scholarship support event, open to all NYC high school girls, to guide them on the road to college.
- College Bound Scholarship-a-Thon: This winter, start laying the financial foundation for college! Join over 100 high school girls, for an afternoon of workshops and writing sessions, and walk away with your own writing-based scholarship submission. You’ll learn from writing experts from Columbia University, get an extensive list of writing-based scholarships, receive one-on-one professional advice on editing an effectual essay in your own voice and style, and talk to current college students about what college life is really like!
- Summer College Bound Workshops: Brainstorm, draft, and refine your unique story to wow college admissions officers. Our free college essay writing workshops offer one-to-one advising and peer editing sessions that will help you find your voice and set you on the path to college. Workshops run in July.
College Preparation for Girls Write Now Mentees
100% of seniors in our mentoring program graduate high school and are accepted to college. We intend to continue our record by guiding girls through the college application process with proper tools and resources, and getting them accepted into the schools of their dreams.
All Girls Write Now senior mentees have year-round access to our College Bound Panel for advice on college applications and essays, financial aid, and college selection. Our college prep experts and members of our program staff provide customized, one-to-one guidance to mentor-mentee pair over the course of the year.
We also incorporate college prep activities into all of our trainings for mentees and mentors, inviting guest speakers from leading universities, as well as our Youth Board, to provide perspective on both getting to college and what it’s like once you’re there.
