College preparation

“I loved the feeling of having so many people surrounding me willing to help me with my writing. In school, we are just told to write an essay; at GWN we are given examples and ideas on how to get started and how to keep the audience’s attention.” – Mary Portes, Girls College Bound participant

Imagine you’re a bright but overburdened high school senior, facing the college application process. Terrifying, right? Now imagine meeting one-to-one with a dedicated college prep advisor to untangle the intricacies of financial aid, or sitting in on a free essay-writing clinic led by a dynamic author. For the girls in our programs, this is not a fantasy. It’s the beginning of their future.

Mentoring Programs

All Girls Write Now mentees have year-round access to our College Prep Panel for advice on college applications and essays, financial aid, and college selection.

Our college prep experts and members of our program staff provide customized, one-to-one guidance to mentor-mentee pair over the course of the year.

We also incorporate college prep activities into all of our trainings for mentees and mentors, inviting guest speakers from leading universities, as well as our Youth Board, to provide perspective on both getting to college and what it’s like once you’re there.

College Bound Program

Our College Bound Program is open to all New York City high school girls. In the summer, we offer a free, expert-led workshop series focused on resume/cover letter writing and the college application essay. In the fall, we run a full-day College Bound Seminar. Apply for Girls College Bound.
