**Desire and Rejection**
2008-09 Girls Write Now Editing Workshop

Editing Workshop

“You must want to enough. Enough to take all the rejections, enough to pay the price of disappointment and discouragement while you are learning. Like any other artist, you are learning your craft- then you can add all the genius you like.” -- Phyllis Whitney

“The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon. You can always do it better, find the exact word, the apt phrase, the leaping simile.” -- Robert Cormier

These few words from fellow writers completely capture the essence of this workshop, designed to help mentors and mentees successfully harness the desire to create art to the craftsman-editor within to help them create something amazing. Highlights:

  • Tips on silencing your inner critic
  • “Craft Talk: Editing” featuring Meghann Foye, Deputy Editor of Seventeen Magazine, Ingrid Dahl, Editor, Youth Media Reporter, and Dodai Stewart, Senior Editor of Jezebel.com
  • And, as always, a healthy lunch!
