By Girls Write Now
Girls Write Now is powered by a vibrant, close-knit community of exceptional women writers—their published work is as captivating and current as the voices of our girls, who stream in to our office for weekly mentoring sessions and monthly workshops from every corner of New York City. Our network of committed volunteers, more than 6,000 strong, intimately understands that a key component of nurturing the next generation of women writers is connecting them with their role models. This space of mutual support has grown exponentially thanks to our partnership with She Writes, which is why, on this Day of Action, we band with them and recall just a few of the countless women whose words inspire us this year, at our workshops, readings and events... Ru Freeman, A Disobedient Girl Annette Gordon-Reed, The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family Kelly McMasters, Welcome to Shirley Marie Mutsuki Mockett, Picking Bones from Ash Laurie Sandell, The Impostor's Daughter Amy Sewell, She's Out There Lizzie Skurnick, Shelf Discovery: The Teen Classics We Never Stopped Reading J. Courtney Sullivan, Commencement Jean Thompson, Do Not Deny Me Jessica Valenti, The Purity Myth |
