 GIRLS WRITE NOW GETS GRAPHIC

Graphic Novel WorkshopOur last workshop of the season was also a first: GWN's inaugural Graphic Novel workshop! With expert graphic novelists Lauren R. Weinstein and Raina Telgemeier at the helm, GWN members learned the basics of the genre, then put ink to paper, bringing to life "Our World and Beyond" (which capped off the "Where We Live" curriculum) with original graphic novel scenes. We celebrated the closing workshop with delicious baked treats, generously donated by chef Joanne Sepetjian.

PAIR SPOTLIGHT

Mary & Maryann"This year I had the joy of seeing Marie Anne get her first job, her first internship, her acceptance to college, and her first music CD (she's a pop-singer)," reflects her mentor, Mary. Just when we thought we'd seen it all, Marie Anne dazzles the crowd alongside Mary with a poignant combination of poetry and prose at last month's final CHAPTERS reading. "In the past three seasons at Girls Write Now," continues Mary, "we've traveled so far, but it seems like we've just begun the new voyage of friendship." This fall, Marie Anne starts her freshman year at St. John's College.
