This spring, Girls Write Now is thrilled to announce CHAPTERS, featuring the work of New York City's best teen writers and the professional women who mentor them, and a dynamic, diverse line-up of special guest authors curated by Maud Newton. CHAPTERS readings will be held at the Center for Fiction (17 East 47th Street bet. 5th Ave. & Madison), from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Mentees, your completed portfolios and End-Year Author's Statements are due Tuesday, June 1. Please remember that these materials, a reflection of your hard work this year, are required to graduate from the Girls Write Now program as a mentee in the class of 2010, and to reapply to be a mentee next year. Your pieces must be printed out and filed in your portfolio at GWN no later then 6pm on Tuesday, June 1. Your complete portfolio should contain the following: Start: 6:00 pm

Mentors, would you like to return to Girls Write Now for our September 2010 - June 2011 season? If so, we ask that you fill out a short Returning Mentor Application. Please submit your returning application no later than June 1, 2010 in order to ensure consideration for a spot in next year's class. Download an application below and email your completed one to jessica@girlswritenow.org by June 1.

The Feminist Press celebrates the much anticipated reissue of June Jordan’s 1971 young adult novel, His Own Where, with a new introduction by Sapphire. This classic novel about two young people in Brooklyn navigating poverty and discovering love for the first time was a finalist for the National Book Award and gained both praise and notoriety for being written entirely in Black English.
