Girls Write Now Mentor Training09/30/2006 - 12:00pm Etc/GMT-4 All GWN mentors are required to take part in an intensive, full-day training and orientation designed to equip them with the tools necessary to guide and encourage their mentees. Adolescent development, cultural diversity (including working with immigrant and ESL students), and the qualities of a successful mentoring relationship are some of the topics addressed. In addition, mentors work on developing skills to guide mentees through the revision process and to facilitate a genre-based writing workshop. Experts from YWCA, Girls Scouts, Planned Parenthood, Teachers & Writers Collaborative, Urban Word NYC, Columbia University, and NYU make presentations and take part in a panel discussion. » calendar |
