Girls rule. You know that. But there was probably one time in your life when you didn’t. It was when you were unsure of yourself—your place in the world and your talents—and struggling to find your unique voice. Much of this uncertainty probably occurred during your teenage years, in between biology tests, acne breakouts and a perhaps nascent love for language and literature. And by now you know that your experience wasn’t unique at all—that thousands of girls felt just like you. They still do, you know. That’s what Girls Write Now is all about.

This handbook is an updated, concise accumulation of knowledge and your guide to the most fundamental aspects of your work with Girls Write Now. It is designed to be a ready resource and key reference to many of your questions and doubts. Use it in conjunction with your training and support from the GWN community to build a strong, memorable and rewarding mentoring experience. Inside, you’ll get a closer look at the nuts and bolts that keep our community strong, and you’ll find more information about how to make the most of your mentoring experience. Like GWN itself, this handbook is dynamic; it grows and changes as the organization evolves. As you proceed through your year, bring us your feedback and ideas.
