Help Girls Write Forever

Our girls' continued success—and our sustainability—depends entirely on the commitment and generosity of our growing base of donors and volunteers. In this difficult economic climate, we have a large waiting list, which is why now more than ever, we're depending on our community to help us stay healthy and strong.

Here's what we've accomplished this year alone!

  • Our mentees submitted 78 pieces to the Scholastic Awards in January and won 13 Gold and Silver Keys, plus a national award, for a total of 34 awards over the last three years.

  • All of our graduating seniors have been accepted to college! They are receiving scholarships and acceptances to competitive schools daily.

  • Mentor and mentee pairs read stunning, original pieces at our Annual Winter Reading and Girls Write Now Day reading, featuring keynote speakers Judy Blundell, winner of the National Book Award in Young People's Literature, and 2009 Pulitzer Prize–winning author Annette Gordon-Reed.

  • We received national attention this year: NBC Nightly News featured Girls Write Now in April for their "Making a Difference Series," and we were chosen as a 2009 Coming Up Taller Semifinalist by the President's Committee on Arts and the Humanities.
