Got a piece so good you need to share it with the world? Want a little extra incentive to finish a piece or try out new uncharted genres? Looking for a chance to get your writing published, or win scholarship money? Look no further! Below is a list of opportunities and scholarships that are aimed specifically at TEENS with topics ranging from poetry to social justice. Interested in Photography?

The Girl Project is a national collection of photographs taken by teenage girls. The photos represent teenage girlhood and life as seen through the eyes of young women in the United States. The strongest images will be edited into a book and a travelling exhibit.
Participation is FREE! Just send an email to The Girl Project and they will send you a disposable camera for you take pictures of whatever YOU think best describes being a teen girl in the United States (visit their website for examples!).

 

 Want to get an inside look at the world of publishing? Apply to be a part of The Penguin Insiders!

The Penguin Insiders are a select group of teenagers in the NYC area who will come to the Penguin NY office several times a year and give feedback directly to the editors, publishers, and marketing groups on upcoming books and campaigns.

If selected, you will be asked to give feedback on covers, manuscripts, and other parts of the publishing process. They want to hear from YOU! For taking part in this group, you will occasionally receive advanced copies of upcoming Penguin books, Penguin swag and more!

To be considered for the Penguin Insiders, you must be at least 13 years of age, enrolled in school for the 2010-2011 year, and live in the NYC-area. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from meetings, which will take place in downtown Manhattan. If you are interested in applying, answer a few simple questions on their website and hit SUBMIT to receive an Application Questionnaire via your parent's email. If chosen as a member of The Penguin Insiders, you will also need to have your parents' permission to participate. Only fully completed applications will be considered.

NPR and The Kitchen Sisters have just started a new project titled "The Hidden World of Girls" which explores the secret life of girls from around the world- and they want to hear from YOU! Visit their website for more information about how to get involved in the project! 
 
 

 GirlChild Press is Looking for Submissions!

GirlChild Press is dedicated to publishing the works of women and girl writers; and they are especially interested in the work of women writers 21 and younger. They are currently looking for manuscripts in the following areas:
YA Novels (with special interest in Native American/Latina/Arab/Asian protagonists), Speculative Fiction, Historical Fiction, Poetry, Memoirs, How-to books (with an emphasis on girls)

Submission Guidelines:
1. Email the first 10 pages of your manuscript to GirlChild Press
2. The subject line of the email should include the title of your work, your name and the genre. Example: Black Swan submittted by Michelle Sewell-memoir.
3. A basic summary of the work should be included in the body of the email, along with your bio.
4. Also share why you believe this book should be publised and who is the interested audience.
5. Please allow 3-4 weeks for review. If we are interested in seeing the entire manuscript they will contact you for a hard copy.

 

Teen Ink Summer Program!

For those of you who are looking for an interesting summer writing program in NYC, you've found it! Teen Ink's summer writing program is open to girls in grades 9-12 (this includes graduating seniors!). The program includes not only writing but also awesome day trips to see Broadway plays, tour New York City, and to visit New York Times office.

 Volunteer Oppurtunity for Teens!

The Queens Community House is looking for Teens ages 14-18 who have a talent or skill that they can share with youth ages 12-18 at their after-school programs.
They are looking for all differnt types of talents (writing, spoken word, dance, art, sports, etc.) so if you are interested in getting community service credit or just looking to gain experience teaching this is for you!

If you're a teen girl between ages 13 and 19 with a passion for writing and memoir, you can submit to Louder Than Words !

What to submit?
1. Name, Age and Email Address
2. A detailed account of a real-life story you want to share.
3. Two writing samplesthatdemonstrate your style, tone and writing ability. Essays, journal entries, blog posts of ficiton pieces welcome! (No poetry please).
4. A few words about why you want to be a part of Louder Than Words and what writing means to you.
5.Reviewed on a rolling basis.
